The final day of the WTT Champions Incheon delivered everything it promised – drama, surprises, and world-class table tennis. With top seeds Tomokazu Harimoto and Hugo Calderano eliminated early, the tournament took unexpected turns, culminating in a finals day packed with action as both semifinals and finals were played back-to-back.
Men’s Semifinals
Lin Yun-Ju (#14) vs Lee Sang Su (#45) 2-4
Scores: 11:5, 5:11, 9:11, 2:11, 11:8, 9:11
These two had only met once before – at the 2019 Asian Cup, where Lin took the win in a tight 4-3 battle. Coming into this match, Lin was the favorite based on ranking and form, but Lee Sang Su had the home crowd and momentum on his side. Once again proving he’s a dangerous underdog, Lee pulled off another upset to advance to the final.
Patrick Franziska (#8) vs Xiang Peng (#23) 2-4
Scores: 9:11, 12:14, 13:11, 8:11, 11:4, 7:11
In their first-ever meeting, both players had shown impressive form throughout the tournament. Franziska, ranked 8th, was expected to go far, but it was Xiang Peng who stole the spotlight. Winning the first two razor-thin sets gave him the confidence to push through, even as Franziska fought back. The Chinese youngster held firm and secured his place in the final.
Women’s Semifinals
Wang Yidi (#3) vs Zhu Yuling (#37) 4-1
Scores: 11:8, 11:7, 3:11, 11:6, 11:7
Their only prior meeting came in 2019, when Zhu Yuling came out on top before her lengthy absence from the sport. But this time, the tide had turned. Wang Yidi, the tournament’s top seed, demonstrated her dominance and ended Zhu’s inspiring comeback run with a solid 4-1 victory.
Miwa Harimoto (#5) vs Chen Xingtong (#4) 2-4
Scores: 4:11, 11:5, 5:11, 7:11, 11:5, 6:11
Though Miwa had won both of their previous encounters, Chen Xingtong wasn’t fazed. Fully focused and prepared, the world No. 4 brought her A-game and overpowered the 16-year-old prodigy. Chen earned her spot in the final and set up a highly anticipated all-Chinese showdown.
Men’s Final
Lee Sang Su (#45) vs Xiang Peng (#23) 0-4
Scores: 8:11, 0:11, 3:11, 4:11
A final no one expected – and one that ended faster than anyone imagined. Despite the incredible run from Lee Sang Su on home soil, Xiang Peng was simply unstoppable. He blitzed through the Korean with a dominant performance, including an unbelievable 11-0 second game. With this 4-0 sweep, Xiang Peng captured his first WTT Champions title in style and is now set to soar in the world rankings.
Women’s Final
Wang Yidi (#3) vs Chen Xingtong (#4) 4-3
Scores: 11:9, 8:11, 9:11, 12:14, 11:9, 11:6, 12:10
The final that everyone had hoped for – and it absolutely delivered. Wang led the head-to-head 7-4, but Chen had won their last two matchups. Chen Xingtong surged to a 3-1 lead and stood just one game away from her maiden WTT Champions title. In the seventh game, she even held four match points at 10:6. But Wang Yidi refused to give in, saved all four, and eventually completed a jaw-dropping comeback in extra points. With this win, Wang secures her second WTT Champions title, capping off the event with one of the most thrilling finals in recent memory.
