The latest ITTF world rankings, released on April 1, bring some shifts in the table tennis hierarchy. One of the biggest headlines is Miwa Harimoto’s rise to World No. 5, making her the highest-ranked 16-year-old player in the world. She has now equaled and surpassed her national team mate Hina Hayata, marking a new career-best ranking for the young Japanese star.
Aside from Harimoto’s impressive climb, several players made significant leaps in the rankings following their strong performances at last week’s WTT Star Contender Chennai. The tournament proved to be a game-changer for multiple rising stars:
Oh Junsung (Winner) – World No. 20 (+16)
Honoka Hashimoto (Finalist) – World No. 18 (+12)
Kim Nayeong (Semifinalist) – World No. 31 (+15)
Thibault Poret (Finalist) – World No. 31 (+23)
Manav Thakkar (Semifinalist) – World No. 47 (+16)
Flavien Coton (Semifinalist) – World No. 65 (+43)
French sensation Flavien Coton made the most dramatic jump, skyrocketing 43 places to World No. 65 after reaching the semifinals in Chennai. His remarkable rise highlights the growing strength of young talents in international table tennis.

With these latest rankings, the competition at upcoming WTT events is set to become even more intense, as new contenders challenge the established elite.
