French table tennis star Alexis Lebrun will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering an injury in the aftermath of his defeat to younger brother Félix in the French National Championship final.
The highly anticipated showdown between the two siblings ended with Félix Lebrun claiming his first national title in a dramatic seven-game battle. However, emotions ran high for Alexis, who, in a moment of frustration, injured his right hand. In a video shared on social media, the 20-year-old admitted to losing control of his emotions after the match.
Following the final, in a moment of anger, I injured myself," he explained. "I deeply regret it, but now I have no choice but to take a break from the table and focus on my recovery.
As a result, Alexis Lebrun has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming World Cup in Macau (April 14–20). His absence is a significant blow to the French team, but Simon Gauzy, a three-time national champion (2013, 2020, 2021), has been selected as his replacement.
For Alexis, this injury marks a frustrating setback, but he will now turn his attention toward rehabilitation, hoping to return stronger in the coming months.
